Eric Leuliette, Ph.D.,
joined the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2007 as a
research oceanographer at the Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry in Silver
Spring, Md. Prior to joining NOAA, he was an assistant research professor
at the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research at the University of
Colorado.
Dr. Leuliette is a
member of the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team and the GRACE Science
Team. As a member of Working Group 1 of the United Nations Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change, Dr. Leuliette shared in the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize
won by former Vice President Al Gore. Dr. Leuliette was a contributing
author and reviewer for the chapter "Observations: Oceanic Climate Change
and Sea Level" of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report Climate Change 2007:
the Physical Science Basis. The IPCC Working Group I (WG1) assesses the
physical scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change.
He received a B.S.
in physics from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in physics
from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was a post-doctoral fellow
at the University of Texas's Center for Space Research in Austin. He was
assistant director of National Youth Science Camp for one year.
Dr. Leuliette is a
1986 graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School.
His research interests
include satellite altimetry and geodesy, sea level rise, time variations
of Earth's gravity field and Earth orientation and geophysical applications
of the Global Positioning System.
He has co-authored
a number of publications, including Geodetic measurements of postglacial
adjustments in Greenland, Constraining hydrological and cryospheric mass
flux in southeastern Alaska using space-based gravity measurements, and
Calibration of TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason altimeter data to construct a continuous
record of mean sea level change.
